India issues advisory to students in Canada amid rising hate crimes, says “remain vigilant”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned for the travelers going to Canada and the students studying there. The Ministry of External Affairs has advised these people to be careful and cautious by issuing an advisory.

New Delhi: For the travelers going to Canada and the students studying there, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned. These people have been advised to be careful and cautious. This advisory has been issued due to increasing crimes and sectarian violence in Canada.

“Students going to Canada beware because of hate crime…” : Travel Advisory to India. A few days ago, a case of defacement by Khalistani extremists of Canada by creating anti-India graffiti on a major Hindu temple in Toronto came to light.

The Foreign Ministry said it has taken up incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities with Canada and has asked the authorities to investigate the crimes and take action. “The perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada,” said a ministry statement.

“In view of the increasing incidences of crimes as described above, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel/education are advised to exercise due caution and remain vigilant,” the statement said.

Furthermore, the MEA requested Indian nationals and students in Canada to register with the Indian mission in Ottawa or consulates in Toronto and Vancouver. “This will enable the High Commission and the Consulates General to better connect with Indian citizens in Canada in the event of any requirement or emergency,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Canadian authorities have been requested to investigate the crimes and take appropriate action. “The perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada,” stated the MEA.
