India is gearing up to take on the West Indies in the first ODI at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday, July 22. Several players who were warming the bench may get a chance to prove their worth because six players who featured in the recently concluded series in England have been rested.

Shikhar Dhawan has been leading the side against Pooran’s men. Pooran started his new journey as a captain a couple of months ago, winning the inaugural series against the Netherlands by an emphatic 3-0 margin. The Caribbean lost the back-to-back ODI series to Pakistan and Bangladesh, which dented the team’s preparation for the next edition of the World Cup.

Dhawan has shown concern over the availability of Ravindra Jadeja in the opening match set to be held today . His deputy has not come out of his knee niggle. The responsibility is on the captain to marshall his troops shrewdly, as he did in his first outing against Sri Lanka a year back. Dhawan must have it in mind to cement his own place in the team as well.

In the absence of top players, the ODI series has provided an opportunity for youngsters to perform splendidly in view of the 50-over World Cup approaching next year.

The last time the hosts defeated the visitors in a bilateral ODI series was in 2006. The time has come to play positive cricket and win an ODI series against the men in blue after 16 years.

The series seems to be interesting. Be ready to watch today’s encounter that will commence at 7:00 PM IST.
