Harare: India is gearing up under the captaincy of KL Rahul to take on Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Thursday.
As usual, the pitch of Harare Sports Club is known for being a paradise for batsmen. Fast bowlers get help with the new ball early on, but otherwise it is a batsman-friendly surface.
KL Rahul has returned to the Indian side after an almost three-month layoff due to a sports hernia and COVID-19. This series would be his second full stint as a captain. His captaincy record is dubious. He has led India in four international matches so far but hasn’t tasted success. Rahul was leading the side when South Africa whitewashed the ODI series in their backyard.
On the eve of the first ODI, Rahul said, “You might be out for two months, but they haven’t forgotten what you have done for the team and the country in the last two-three years.”
He missed the recently concluded two series against England and the West Indies. India overpowered the three lions by 2-1, and after that, Shikhar Dhawan’s side hammered the West Indies 3-0.
Weathermen have assured clear weather and no rain is predicted during the first ODI. According to AccuWeather, the Harare weather is expected to remain bright and sunny, and the temperature is likely to remain around 21 degrees Celsius at a minimum and 27 degrees Celsius at a maximum during the match.
India is the favourite to trounce the hosts. But uncertainty always looms in cricket.
