New Delhi: India reports 17,073 new COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, infections taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 4,34,07,046, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday. The country saw 45% rise in cases after it had reported 11,739 cases on 26 June.
The death count climbed to 5,25,020 with 21 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. India’s total active caseload has now climbed to 94,420, the data showed. An increase of 1,844 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The country saw 10917 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The active cases comprise 0.21 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.58 per cent, the ministry said. A total of 86.10 crore tests have been conducted so far; 3,03,604 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.62 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 3.39 per cent, according to the health ministry. In the last 24 hours, a total of 2,49,646 people have been administered with the total vaccination now stands at 1,97,11,91,329 in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 6,493 COVID-19 cases and five deaths, all in Mumbai, taking the tally to 79,62,666 and the toll to 1,47,905, an official said. Mumbai reported 2,771 cases and five deaths, which took the tally to 11,07,449 and the fatality count to 19,599.The active caseload in the state is 24,608, he said. The overall count of recoveries stood at 77,90,153 until now.
Tamilnadu daily coronavirus cases rose sharply as 1,472 infections were logged on Sunday, pushing the caseload to 34,68,344. The toll remained unchanged at 38,026 with no fresh fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours, a medical bulletin said. India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
