Mumbai: India opener Murali Vijay announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. The batter, who played 61 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 9 T20Is for India, made his last international appearance back in 2018 against Australia in a Test played in Perth. He enjoyed a decade playing international cricket.

Vijay had a ten-year career and played 15 Tests against Australia, scoring 1324 runs in 28 innings, including six half-centuries and four hundreds. He participated in six of the 15 Test matches in Australia, where he amassed 531 runs, including four half-centuries and one century.
Late in 2019, Vijay played cricket for Tamil Nadu in both List A and first-class matches. He last turned out for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2020.
In a message sent to Twitter, Vijay said, “Today, with enormous gratitude and humility, I announce my retirement from all forms of international cricket.”
The 38-year-old Vijay continued, “I am delighted to announce that I will be exploring new options in the world of cricket and the business side of it. I will also continue to engage in the sport that I love and challenge myself in new and different surroundings.
“Last but not least, I want to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their unconditional love and support during my career. Without them, I would not have been able to accomplish what I have today. “They have been my backbone,” he said.
