Kolkata: India is gearing up to face Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. The mood in the Indian camp is upbeat after beating the visitors by 67 runs in the first match played at Guwahati.
Virat Kohli hammered 113 runs in 87 deliveries, helping India reach 373-7. It was the 45th century by Kohli in the ODI and just four knocks away from equaling the 49 hundreds of Sachin Tendulkar.
Virat is just 67 runs away from overtaking former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene’s overall ODI score. Kohli has amassed 12,584 runs so far in ODIs, Mahela Jayawardene managed to hit 12,650 runs in ODIs.
If Kohli surpasses Jayawardene’s record, then he will keep his name on the list of the top five run scorers in ODIs. Virat is set to break most of the records in the limited overs fixtures.
The swashbuckling batter has so far hit 73 centuries in international cricket. Kohli has scored 45 tons in ODIs, including 27 centuries in Test cricket as well.
Meanwhile, India is looking more confident and better prepared in comparison to Sri Lanka. The confidence level of the men in blue is high. The place of KL Rahul is in jeopardy because of his poor run with the bat. New players should get a chance in place of Rahul.
