New Delhi: India on Tuesday (January 10) successfully tested the strategic ballistic missile Prithvi-2 (Prithvi-II) off the Odisha coast. The Defense Ministry said that the missile targeted the target in a very precise manner. The ministry said that short-range ballistic missile Prithvi-2 was successfully test-fired from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range on the Odisha coast on January 10.
The ministry said in a statement that the prestigious system Prithvi-2 missile is an important part of India’s nuclear stockpile. The missile hit the target very precisely. The statement said that in the successful test, all the operational and technical parameters of the missile were found correct. The strike range of Prithvi-II missile is about 350 km.
The Prithvi-II missile is a short-range, surface-to-surface ballistic missile developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It is part of India’s Prithvi missile series, which includes Prithvi-I, Prithvi-II, Prithvi-III and Dhanush.
Capable of carrying a payload of up to 500 kg
Prithvi II is an indigenously developed missile and is capable of carrying a payload of up to 500 kg. The short-range ballistic missile Prithvi-II was test-fired from Chandipur in Odisha in June last year. The missile is capable of hitting the target with a very high degree of accuracy. Amidst the ongoing deadlock on the border of China and Pakistan, India is continuously strengthening its missile capability.
