India Will Not Travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025; BCCI to Request ICC for Neutral Venue

The Indian cricket team is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, according to recent reports. This decision aligns with India’s current diplomatic stance, which led to the team not traveling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

Diplomatic Relations Impacting Sports
Due to the strained diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan, the two countries have not engaged in bilateral cricket series and only face each other in multi-nation tournaments. This policy is expected to continue, impacting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Potential Hybrid Model or Venue Shift
A BCCI source indicated that India might request the ICC to hold the Champions Trophy matches in neutral venues such as Dubai or Sri Lanka, similar to the hybrid model used for the Asia Cup 2023, where India played its matches in Sri Lanka.

PCB’s Arrangements and Government’s Stance
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had planned for the Indian team’s travel, basing them in Lahore, close to the India-Pakistan border, to facilitate smoother logistics. However, this plan appears to be dismissed.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla reiterated that the decision would follow the Indian government’s directives: “In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India tells us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India permits us.”

India last played in Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup. Since then, increasing tensions have led to uncertainties regarding their participation in cricket tournaments held in Pakistan.
