India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured second place in the Diamond League Finals with a throw of 83.80 meters in the men’s javelin throw at the Hayward Field in Eugene on 16 September (Saturday). Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic won the Diamond League trophy by securing first place with a best throw of 84.24 meters.
25-year-old, who has been in excellent form this season, won the gold medal in the World Championship last month with a throw of 88.17 meters. Now Neeraj will be seen competing in the Asian Games starting from 23rd September. Neeraj misses the crown with its performance. Neeraj Chopra started with a foul in the final of Diamond League, but in the second attempt he managed to reach second place with a throw of 83.80 meters. He recorded 81.37m, 80.74m, and 80.90m throws in his following attempts as he struggled to surpass Vadlejch’s mark. Finland’s Helander Oliver finished in third place with a throw of 83.74.

At the same time, Jakub Vadlejch had already gained the lead in the first attempt, which remained intact till the end. Had stood first in Doha and Lausanne stage. Neeraj Chopra had earlier secured first place in Doha and Lausanne stage of Diamond League and second place in Zurich.
Mardare Andrian finished third with a throw of 81.79m in his last attempt. USA’s Thompson Curtis and Grenada’s Peters Anderson failed to reach the 80 m mark in their six attempts and finished last two. Mardare Andrian was the only player to successfully make all six throws as their opponents recorded at least one foul at Hayward Field.
After 7-years of hiatus, the 32-year-old Vadlejch bags its third title in Diamond League history. He took the lead in his first attempt with a throw of 84.01, but recorded three consecutive fouls in his next throw. However, his rivals failed to reach their first attempt mark as Wadlez finished with a day’s best throw of 84.24 metres.
