Awana said he returned from Kanwar Yatra on Friday morning and was exhausted so he took a few hours nap and then he went to buy ice from the market in the evening in Site-4 in his SUV where he was manhandled.

According to Awana, a group of goons were fighting among themselves at a welding shop, disturbed with this violence he asked them not to fight. Then he bought some ice from a shop, got in his car and drove away.

As he covered several meters those goons chased him down and forced him to stop his car and eventually they ended up by thrashing him and flew away from the spot.

He reported this incident on a WhatsApp group where he informed the group members about the incident and requested them to provide the number of the police in Greater Noida. The group members immediately responded and shared the number of SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar.

A group of police officials immediately went to the spot to rescue him but they were unable to catch the goons.

As per the primary investigation SSP Love Kumar said that this was a case of manhandling and there was no such attack and was a case of conflict between two rival groups.

He further went on to say: “Awana reached there and asked them not to fight. He later left the spot in his SUV. One group mistook him to be a member of the rival group, assuming the later had called him for help. These criminals manhandled the cricketer and fled from the spot.”

An FIR has been registered by the police against the unidentified accusers while the search for them is still on.
