New Delhi: The Indian contingent in the upcoming Commonwealth Games will stay at five different “villages”. The women’s cricket team has to stay in the Birmingham city centre.
India will send 215 athletes across 16 disciplines to the Games, which begin on July 28. The overall size of the Indian side, including officials, will be 325.
Usually, all athletes stay in the same games village, but the organisers of the 2022 CWG have made arrangements at five different locations for the participating athletes.
It is expected that more than 5,000 athletes will participate in the sporting extravaganza.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has informed that all the members have to undergo a RT-PCR test for COVID-19 72 hours prior to their landing in the UK.
Athletes who are taking part in swimming, athletics, gymnastics, squash, and hockey, will stay in the Commonwealth Games Village Birmingham (CGB). Participants in badminton, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, and triathlon will be required to stay at the Commonwealth Games Village NEC (CGN).
Those who are taking part in wrestling, judo, and lawn bowls will be based out of Commonwealth Games Village Warwick (CGW). The cycling event is set to take place in London. The track team will be staying at the Satellite Village (SVL).
All athletes will have to show sportsmanship throughout the game.
