Indian crew member killed and 20 hurt as cargo ship catches fire off Dutch coast

New Delhi: At least one person has been killed and several injured after a massive fire broke out on a cruise ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles. The incident happened off the Dutch coast on Tuesday when the ship was on its way from Germany to Egypt.

New Delhi: At least one person has been killed and several injured after a massive fire broke out on a cruise ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles. The incident happened off the Dutch coast on Tuesday when the ship was on its way from Germany to Egypt.

According to the information, the ship caught such a fierce fire that the crew members aboard had to jump into the sea to save themselves as they could not extinguish the fire. In such a situation, boats and helicopters have been used to rescue the crew members.

In the video going viral, it has been seen that a huge ship is floating in the sea and smoke is coming out of it. Many more small ships are seen around the ship as well as some helicopters have also been seen.

In such a situation, why the ship caught fire and how the crew member died, it is being investigated. According to The Guardian’s report, on how the ship caught fire, the owner of the ship suspects that there was an electric car in the cargo, due to which the fire broke out.

In a statement made by the agency, it said that boats and helicopters were used to disembark the 23 crew members after an unsuccessful attempt to extinguish the fire. Apart from this, it has also been said in the statement that the investigation agency is probing the cause of the fire and how the crew member died.

According to the statement, “All 23 crew members have been evacuated. Part of the crew jumped and were pulled out of the water by the lifeboats of KNRM and Redrij Nordgut. The rest of the crew was also taken off by the Coast Guard helicopter.”

The statement further said “Unfortunately one crew member has died. How it happened is not known to the Coast Guard. Several crew members have also been injured. People on board have been taken to Lauversoog and Elde airports. They are being cared for by paramedics there.”
