Both the Indian men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams showcased their prowess on the global stage, earning coveted spots at the Paris Olympics. The women’s quartet, comprising Rupal Chaudhary, M R Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, and Subha Venkatesan, clocked an impressive time of 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds, securing a commendable second place in their heat.
Similarly, the men’s team, led by Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Arokia Rajiv, and Amoj Jacob, delivered a collective timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds, securing the second position in their heat behind the formidable USA team.
Despite facing initial setbacks, including a fifth-place finish in the first-round qualifying heat for the women’s team and an early withdrawal in the men’s first-round heat due to cramps, the Indian contingent showcased resilience and determination, ultimately achieving their Olympic qualification goals.
With the addition of the relay teams, India’s tally for Paris-bound track and field athletes now stands at an impressive 19, including the reigning javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra. As anticipation builds for the athletic events scheduled to commence on August 1, the Indian contingent is poised to make its mark on the global stage once again.
