Toronto: In yet another apparent hate crime case, a 17-year-old Sikh teenager has been attacked in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The victim is a student of Sikh Kishore High School. Teen targeted at bus stop after brawl with another teenager. During this, the victim student was beaten severely and pepper was sprayed on him. The police is investigating the matter.
According to media reports, The incident happened on Monday on Rutland Road in Kelowna. Where the high school student was allegedly kicked, punched and sprayed with pepper spray. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement that the victim, a Sikh teenager, was attacked after he got off the bus. However, the police have not given details of the incident. The World Sikh Organization of Canada expressed displeasure over the incident and alleged that the victim student was also beaten in the bus.
Officers discovered that the 17-year-old Sikh student had been sprayed with beer or pepper spray by another teenage male after he exited a public transit bus on his way home, a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. The victim was then threatened and tortured with a lighter. Guntas Kaur, vice president of the World Sikh Organization, called the incident unacceptable and shocking. This is the second incident of attack on a Sikh youth in British Columbia this year. Earlier in March, Indian-origin student Gagandeep Singh was attacked by a group of people.
Police hide the other details, the World Sikh Organisation of Canada has alleged that the student was also assaulted while aboard the vehicle.
According to reports, quoting sources, “Two men approached the student and first blocked his entry to the bus and then, once allowing him to board, began to threaten him with a lighter and photograph and record him from a close distance with their phones.”
Every year in Canada such case of apparent hate crime is seen, In march 2012, Gagandeep Singh, was attacked in British Columbia province by a group of unknown men who ripped off his turban and dragged him across the sidewalk by his hair.
