New Delhi: India’s got 3rd medal in Judo at CWG 2022 in Birmingham. India’s dream of winning a gold medal in judo at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games remained unfulfilled. Tulika Mann lost in the women’s +78 kg final. She was defeated by Sarah Adlington of Scotland. Sarah is the winner of the last Commonwealth Games. Tulika had to be satisfied with the silver medal but this achievement is not less, as this is India’s second silver medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.

Judoka Tulika had started the bout well and got the first point but after that she got 2 penalties and this shook her confidence and she missed out on creating history by winning the gold medal in judo.

Indian judoka Tulika Mann won a silver medal in the women’s +78kg category at the Commonwealth Games after losing to Sarah Adlington of Scotland in the final. This is India’s third and overall 16th medal in Judo. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Tulika Mann for winning a silver medal in Judo.

This is India’s third medal in Judo at the showpiece event. L Shushila Devi and Vijay Kumar had claimed silver and bronze in women’s 48kg and men’s 60kg respectively on Monday.

It is to be noted that in the wake of the derecognition of Judo Federation of India on 22nd April, an expert committee was constituted by the Sports Authority of India to oversee the trials and selection process for the Commonwealth Games and also suggest necessary changes. was given.

There are three types of scoring in Judo. It is called ippon, waza-ari and yuko. Ippon occurs when the player throws to the player in front and does not allow him to rise. A full point is awarded when it is fired and the player wins. Sarah Adlington won in a similar way in the semi-finals.

Earlier, Tulika had also scored a point with a waza-aari. If the throw is done with less force, it is called a vaza-ari. Half a point is given in this. A player gets a full point for twice a waza-ari and that player becomes the winner. However, Sara won the match by eppon before Tulika could try Waza-Aari or Ippon for the second time. Sara won the match against Ippon in the last minute.
