Indore: 8 dead, 19 rescued in stepwell collapse in Indore temple during Ram Navami celebration

Indore: On the occasion of Ram Navami, a major accident took place on Thursday in a temple located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Four devotees have died in this tragic accident. As of now, 19 people have been evacuated and work is on to evacuate the rest.

Indore: On the occasion of Ram Navami, a major accident took place on Thursday in a temple located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. In fact, more than two dozen devotees fell into Bawdi (a big old well) due to roof collapse in the famous Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple located in Patel Nagar area of ​​Indore, the work of rescuing them is going on.

More than 25 people fell into the well about 30 feet below due to the collapse of the stepwell roof. Police and devotees tried to pull people out with ropes. Eight devotees have died in this tragic accident. As of now, 19 people have been evacuated and work is on to evacuate the rest.

Right now some more people are feared to be trapped. According to local media reports, there is four to five feet of water in the 30 feet deep stepwell. It is being told that the officials had no information about this stepwell. They came to know about it after the accident. After this accident, there is an atmosphere of chaos all around.

Indore collector Ilaiah Raja said people gathered near the well for worship at the Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal temple, but the well caved in and 25 people fell due to the overload. 19 people have been rescued and 4 people have died. SDRF team is present at the spot, rescue work is going on. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself is monitoring the incident. He said that some more people are feared trapped and efforts are being made to rescue them too.

Official sources said that a large crowd of devotees had gathered at the Beleshwar Mahadev Temple complex located in the local Patel Nagar on the occasion of Ram Navami today. Around 12 noon, the roof over the old stepwell located in the campus caved in. Because of this the devotees who came to the temple premises fell into it.

It is feared that the depth of the stepwell is more than 30 feet. However, the amount of water in it is relatively less. Relief and rescue operations have been started by putting ladders and ropes in the stepwell. It is not yet clear that how many more people are trapped in the stepwell. Administration’s priority is to evacuate the trapped people

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was deeply hurt by the incident in Indore. Talked to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and inquired about the situation. The state government is moving fast in the rescue and relief work. As soon as the information about the incident was received, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussed with senior officials of Indore on phone and asked them to speed up the relief and rescue work.

The Chief Minister’s Office is in constant touch with the Indore district administration. In a message issued to the media, Chouhan said that all the pilgrims evacuated so far are safe. He has suffered minor injuries and is being given first aid on the spot. Arrangements for ambulance etc. have been made on the spot. They have prayed to God that all the people come out safely.
