Indore tragedy: Death count rises to 35 in Indore temple stepwell collapse, 18 Rescued so far

Indore: In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, the death toll due to the collapse of Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple has increased to 35. At the same time, 18 people are said to be injured. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is constantly monitoring the situation.

Talking to the media, Indore Collector Dr. Ilayaraja T said, “18 people were admitted to the hospital, out of which 2 people have been discharged. 35 people died. One person is still missing. Teams of Army, NDRF and SDRF are conducting search and rescue operations.

According to officials, there was a Havan program on Ram Navami at Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple located in Patel Nagar area of ​​Indore city. During this, a large crowd of devotees gathered on the roof of the ancient stepwell in the temple. Meanwhile, the roof of the stepwell caved in. The local people told that the temple was built by putting a roof on the ancient stepwell. The roof probably could not bear the weight of so many people. There was four to five feet of water in the 40 feet deep stepwell. This temple is about 60 years old.

According to officials, a team of 70 army personnel along with NDRF and SDRF are engaged in the operation. They are engaged in removing water from the stepwell and search is on for the missing people after the incident.

CM announces compensation
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Chouhan told reporters that an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased, while Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured.
