Captains have to keep everything fresh in their minds, including the overrate. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul was found guilty of breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. As a captain, he failed to maintain the overrate against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
This was the second offence by the LSG captain in this edition of the IPL. He was fined Rs 24 lakh, and the other team members were penalized with Rs 6 lakh, or 25% of the match fee.
However, KL Rahul once again showed his class and stupendous form, scoring a superb hundred, which proved enough for the LSG to surpass MI by 36 runs. Mumbai Indians have continued their dubious distinction this season by losing their eight consecutive matches.
Who would have imagined before the start of the IPL season that MI would find themselves in such a dire situation? The five-time champions, MI, are winless after eight matches. What will be their next step for the upcoming matches? It seems the team’s strategies failed to materialize. The think tank should take some leaves from SRH on how to come back. But it is too late now.
Second century by Rahul in IPL 2022
Credit must be given to KL Rahu and the entire team for coming back strongly after a loss in the previous encounter. Rahul led the team from the front and played a remarkable knock, hitting his second century of the IPL season.
LSG skipper contributed 103 runs out of the team’s total score of 168/6 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians remained short of the target by miles. LSG bowlers limited MI to 132 for 8. All the bowlers bowled with immaculate line and length, but the pick of the bowlers in the match was Krunal Pandya, who took 3 for 19 in his allotted four overs.
With this victory, Lucknow Super Giants joined the clubs of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore with 10 points each, meanwhile Gujarat Titans are comfortably placed with 12 points. Mumbai Indians have not been able to register their names in the point table column.
Rahul, in his emphatic innings, entertained the Wankhede crowd with his swashbuckling batting, hitting 12 boundaries and four sixes in 62 balls. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah bowled with enthusiasm, returning 1/31 in four overs. The silver lining is that the road to MI seems to be over.
“It was a hard-fought win. We planned and executed well, “Krunal Pandya said. “Rahul’s knock was terrific and he is leading from the front. We bowled slower and made it hard for their batters.”
