Russia has been targeting Bakhmut as Russian forces have been gradually moving through the region since grabbing the two crucial towns of Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk in June and July this year. In fact, Soledar is situated just north of Bakhmut.

In his night video address, Zelenskiy said, “Soledar and Bakhmut are the vital hot spots in Donbas.” “An intense fight has been progressing there.”

Russian troops took several Ukrainian fronts under their control on Sunday. The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said Russian forces have been targeting Kharkiv, Donetsk and Kherson regions.

Ukrainian military analyst Oleh Zhdanov claimed that the fiercest fighting has taken place north of Bakhmut, declaring that the Ukrainian forces have been fighting with bravery and prevented the Russian advancement on the towns of Torske and Sprine in the past 24 hours.

Russia’s defence ministry said on Sunday its forces did well and checked the advancement of Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions, causing what it described as significant losses.

However, Russia has made it clear that it has continued its air strikes to target Ukraine’s military and energy bases, using long-range precision-guided weapons.

Ukrainian forces opened fire on the administration building in Donetsk, the capital of the Donetsk region, according to the head of its Russian-backed administration on Sunday.
