New Delhi: Former Australia spinner Shane Warne lashed out on R Ashwin over Delhi Capitals spinner’s altercation with Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Eoin Morgan during their IPL match on Tuesday, saying DC player’s act on the field was disgraceful.
“The world shouldn’t be divided on this topic and Ashwin,” he tweeted. “It’s pretty simple – it’s disgraceful and should never happen. Why does Ashwin have to be that guy again? I think (Eoin Morgan) had every right to nail him,” Warner tweeted.

Notably, Ashwin and Morgan had a heated altercation during the KKR vs DC match in IPL 2021 on Tuesday. The problem started when Ashwin tried stealing an extra run after KKR fielder Rahul Tripathi’s throw ricocheted off the DC captain’s body. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan felt that it wasn’t in “Spirit of the Game” and had a word or two reserved for Ashwin when he got out off a Tim Southee delivery.
An angry Ashwin who was leaving the field stopped and was seen charging towards the KKR skipper when Karthik came in between and gave his Tamil Nadu statemate a friendly pat requesting him to leave.
Morgan, the KKR skipper, also admitted that considering the nature of the contest and the hot weather conditions, things can boil upon certain occasions. Though on a personal level, Morgan didn’t contribute much with the bat, he was happy to see his side sail through with a win.
“Both sides played the game hard. On a hot day, things can boil over. Thankfully it didn’t. We all played in the right spirit,” Morgan said.
“And its a tough contest against Delhi Capitals. Full credit has to go to our coach Brendon McCullum. Its his ethos, his mindset, and the boys have bought into that,” he added.
“I think it is part and parcel of the game because both the team are striving to win the match, so something is going to happen. Whatever is good for the game, I think that was in the ‘Spirit of the Game’,” Pant said in the presentation ceremony after his team’s 3-wicket defeat.
