IPL 2022: In today’s double-header, CSK and MI look to end their lacklustre show

In a nail-biting finish yesterday, Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their unbeaten streak so far in the IPL, defeating Punjab Kings by six wickets in the last over. Shubman Gill played a heroic knock of 96, which proved fruitful for GT to cross the line.

Two matches are on the card today. The first match will be played at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium between the reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match is set to kick off at 3:30 pm.

Another game tonight at MCA Stadium in Pune between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Mumbai Indians (MI). Both matches seemed to hit the highest level of cricket.

CSK and MI need to open their accounts

Both franchises, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, are sailing in the same boat. Their point tables are still blank despite playing three matches each. Both sides have to get the right combination to overcome their opponents in today’s encounters.

Two struggling teams, CSK and SHR, are looking to grab important points in today’s match. On the other hand, MI will face an uphill task in stopping the in-form RCB in Saturday’s double header. At the outset, it looked like both matches would be thrilling.

CSK’s new skipper, Ravindra Jadeja, and MI captain, Rohit Sharma, have to prove their captaincy. Both are under tremendous pressure to raise the game of their respective franchises.

Dismal performance by CSK

CSK has not performed so abysmally in any edition of the IPL as the franchise has done so far in IPL 2022. The Mumbai Indians are known as slow starters, but in this edition, 10 teams are participating. Therefore, the margin of error is very small.

CSK and MI, both champion sides, looked disjointed in their previous matches. Their bowling attacks looked impotent and were exposed in the early part of the IPL season.

RCB looks a confident side

RCB is well placed after getting off two out of three matches. In today’s match, RCB appear to be in a better position to dethrone Rohit Sharma’s MI. Both teams have plenty of class players along with rising stars.

It seems RCB doesn’t like to disturb its winning combination, except for the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell. MI is certain to make changes, specially in the bowling unit, as they leaked aplenty against KKR’s Cummins’ hurricane.

CSK seems to be in trouble in this edition after failing to chase 181 against the Punjab Kings in their third game on April 3. At one point, they were staggering at 27/5. In spite of Shivam Dube’s fifty, CSK lost by 54 runs. This is one of the biggest margins of defeat for CSK in IPL history.

Kane Williamson has the responsibility of improving the franchise’s performance. The team requires a pep talk in order to step up its game.Kane Williamson, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and others can blast with the bat. But they need to click in today’s match.

CSK has the services of veteran wicketkeeper batsman and mentor MS Dhoni. The team needs to play better cricket and keep their focus on the match. CSK and SRH are both pointless. They have a chance to disturb the point tables, and then go ahead.

The double header is going to be another feast for the cricket fans. Most of them have the chance to enjoy the Saturday holiday.
