IPS Officer Alok Sharma Appointed as New Director of SPG

Alok Sharma, a Science graduate with a B.Tech (mechanical) degree and a resident of Aligarh, has been appointed as the new Director of SPG. He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1991 and has held various significant positions in Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut Inspector General. After his promotion, he served as the Additional Director General at the Police Training School in Meerut in 2016.

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Alok Sharma has been appointed as the director of the Special Protection Group (SPG), the elite security unit responsible for the safety and security of the Prime Minister.

Alok Sharma, an IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, currently serving as the additional director general of the Special Protection Group (SPG), has been appointed as the director of SPG. The government order confirming Sharma’s appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Alok Sharma has been overseeing the SPG after the passing of SPG director Arun Kumar Sinha on September 6, 2023. Sinha served as the longest-serving chief of the SPG from 2016 to 2023. The order does not specify the duration of Alok Sharma’s new assignment.

The order issued on Friday regarding Alok Sharma’s appointment as the director of the Special Protection Group (SPG) does not specify the duration of his new assignment. The order mentioned that he would continue in this role until further orders.
