In a significant development, the Central government has named 1990 batch IPS officer Daljit Singh Chaudhary as the new Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG). Currently serving as the DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Chaudhary will take on the additional charge of heading the NSG.
The NSG, commonly known as the “black cats,” is India’s premier counter-terrorism force. Specialized in counter-deployment against terrorism and anti-hijacking operations, the force is reserved for specific and exceptional circumstances as deemed necessary by the government. Notably, the NSG played a crucial role during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order on Wednesday, stating, “The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Director General, National Security Guard (NSG) to Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS (UP:90), Director General, SSB.” This additional responsibility comes following the superannuation of M A Ganapathy, IPS (UK:86), the former Director General of NSG, on February 29. Chaudhary’s tenure is specified for a period of three months or until the appointment and joining of a regular incumbent, whichever occurs earlier.
