Is He PM Candidate?”: Rahul Gandhi’s Willingness to Debate PM Modi Challenged by BJP

Debate between PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi: Amidst the Lok Sabha elections, former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi has challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open forum debate, but after this challenge, Congress BJP seems to be attacking Rahul. BJP leaders say that Rahul is neither a PM candidate nor the president of any party. In such a situation, on what basis is he challenging Prime Minister Modi for a debate?

In fact, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday responded to the letter written by retired judge Madan B Lokur, former chairman of the Law Commission of India Ajit P Shah and senior journalist N Ram on Twitter. He wrote in his post, ‘For a healthy democracy, it will be a positive initiative for the major parties to present their vision to the country from one platform. Congress welcomes this initiative and accepts the invitation for discussion. The country also expects the Prime Minister to participate in this dialogue.

Hitting back at Rahul’s post, BJP leader Tejasvi Surya wrote, ‘Who is Rahul Gandhi that PM Modi should debate with him? Rahul Gandhi is not even the PM candidate of the Congress party, leave alone the INDIA alliance. First he should declare himself the PM candidate of Congress, say that he will take responsibility for his party’s defeat and then call the PM for a debate. Till then, we are ready to deploy our BJYM spokespersons to counter him in any debate.’

BJP IT Cell President Amit Malviya wrote, ‘Desperate for relevance, after Arvind Kejriwal got interim bail, Rahul Gandhi is now punching above his weight. Debate is good, but why should the current Prime Minister debate with Rahul Gandhi? He is neither the Congress President nor the prime ministerial face of the INDI alliance. Congress should stop using brand Modi to re-launch Rahul Gandhi.
