‘It is a rarest of rare crime, accused should be hanged’: Arvind Kejriwal on Delhi woman being dragged by car

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has given his response on Monday regarding this horrific incident. He tweeted, "What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is extremely shameful. I hope the culprits are given the harshest punishment."

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday (January 2, 2023) reacted to the incident in which a 20-year-old woman’s scooty was hit by a car and her body was dragged for kilometres. Taking to his official Twitter account, Kejriwal said the incident was “shameful” and the culprits should be given the “severest punishment”.

Calling the incident “rarest of rare”, the Chief Minister said the culprits should be hanged.

He said in a tweet, “What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is very shameful. I hope that the culprits will be punished severely.”

Police said that information was received at Kanjhawala police station (Rohini district) at 3:24 am on Sunday that a body was tied to a car going towards Qutubgarh area.

The victim’s leg got stuck in one of the wheels of the car and she was dragged for about four kilometres, he said.

Five people traveling in the Maruti Baleno have been arrested.

Accused Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26) have been booked under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) . and Manoj Mittal.

“While Deepak is a driver, Amit works with SBI cards in Uttam Nagar, Krishna works in Connaught Place, Mithun works as a hair dresser in Naraina and Mittal works as a food dealer in Sultanpuri,” he added.
The victim used to work part time in marriage and other works. The police officer said that she was returning home from one such function when the incident happened.

The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to the city police in connection with the incident.

Police said the victim’s body was sent to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital at Mangolpuri for post-mortem. They said the victim’s leg got entangled in one of the wheels of the car and she was dragged for around four kilometres.
