Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahapatra was arrested in 2012 for sharing disparaging cartoons of Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roy.
Kolkata: Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahapatra was arrested in 2012 for sharing disparaging cartoons of Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roy. At last, he got a respite in that case after 11 years of a long legal battle.
He was detained after an FIR was lodged against him at the East Jadavpur Police Station on April 12, 2012.
Mahapatra claimed in an interview with India Today TV that he was fighting against all kinds of injustices. The Alipore District Court requested that the professor be released from the criminal case by the lower court.
The professor claimed that the police administration, the ruling party goons, and the Bengal government were playing a game of conspiracy. They are trying to silence the opposition so that no one dares to raise their voices against the West Bengal government.
The state administration accused Mahapatra of violating Section 66A of the Information Technology Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code.
