Jammu and Kashmir: On Friday, five Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in Kulgam encounter of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have launched a search operation in the area. An encounter between terrorists and security forces started in Samanu village of Kulgam district on Thursday afternoon.
As per officials, Gunshots were exchanged early Friday following a night-long lull in the Samno region of Nehama in Kulgam district. However, no statement has yet been issued by the police.
As per Kashmir Zone Police said that the encounter between security forces and terrorists continued for the second day on Friday in Kulgam district of South Kashmir. Army’s 34 Rashtriya Riffles, 9 Para (elite special forces unit), Police and CRPF are carrying out the operation.
Security forces initiated a search operation in Nehama village on intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists in the area, officials said. As the cordon was tightening, the terrorists started firing. This has started the encounter. Late night firing stopped.
They added that the search operation turned into a gunbattle as the terrorists opened fire towards the security personnel. The officials further said that the security forces maintained a tight cordon around the area where the terrorists are trapped, the operation was suspended overnight. No report of any casualty has so far been received, the officials added.
