Jammu and Kashmir: Fire breaks out at Srinagar’s Dal Lake, three houseboats gutted

J&K: An early hours of Saturday, official said that a massive fire broke out in the tourist hub of Srinagar’s Dal Lake , destroying property worth crores of rupees. However, there was no loss of life in the incident, they said. Officials said the three houseboats, ‘London House’, ‘Safena’ and ‘Lala Rukh’ were gutted in the overnight blaze.

Giving information about this incident, official said, “Fire has been brought under control. The exact cause of fire is being ascertained. There has been no casualty in this incident as per reports received so far.”

As per initial reports, at least half a dozen houseboats have been damaged due to the fire. According to an official of the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the fire broke out near Ghat number 9 of Dal Lake at around 5.15 am. At least five houseboats and three huts were damaged, the official said.

Houseboats are floating palaces on the Dal and Nigeen Lakes in Srinagar city. These are high-end luxury dwellings engaged by affluent tourists and honeymooners who visit the Valley. Pertinently, the fire incident in the Dal Lake came hours after a three-storey building was gutted in another fire incident in the Human area in Srinagar outskirts. A firefighter was injured in the fire incident.
