Jammu and Kashmir: In various regions of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K), particularly in Poonch, Continuous rainfall over the past 48 hours has caused havoc. Due to a landslide triggered by torrential rains several houses were damaged in Bedar village, Mandi area of Poonch.

Jammu and Kashmir: In various regions of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K), particularly in Poonch, Continuous rainfall over the past 48 hours has caused havoc. Due to a landslide triggered by torrential rains several houses were damaged in Bedar village, Mandi area of Poonch.

Heavy rains caused flash floods in Poonch and parts of north Kashmir, damaging 8 to 10 buildings and roads. On Tuesday, Authorities in Kashmir have announced closure of all schools in the valley as a precautionary measure in view of the rising water level in rivers and streams due to incessant rainfall over the past three days.

Giving details of the incident, SDM Ashfaq Hussain said that 8 to 10 houses have been damaged due to heavy rains, some of which have been completely destroyed and some partially damaged. Apart from this, roads have also been damaged.

“The weather will improve from tomorrow. The weather will be generally dry with no major activity from May 1 to May 5,”The meteorological department said. In a other incident, an avalanche struck the Sarbal area of ​​Sonamarg in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. However, there were no casualties or financial losses as the avalanche occurred in the forest area of ​​Sonamarg.
