Jammu and Kashmir: On Friday, police official said that an avalanche occurred in the Hung area of Sonmarg in the Ganderbal district, causing the temporary blockage of the crucial Srinagar-Leh highway. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Jammu and Kashmir: On Friday, police official said that an avalanche occurred in the Hung area of Sonmarg in the Ganderbal district, causing the temporary blockage of the crucial Srinagar-Leh highway. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, as per the police, there has been no damage to any property. The avalanche occurred near Hung area, resulting in several vehicles getting buried under the snow. Getting information about this incident, a police team was immediately sent to the spot after under the direction of SSP Ganderbal.

The team successfully rescued two vehicles that were stuck under the avalanche. According to official sources, the avalanche directly impacted two vehicles, primarily occupied by tourists. However, swift action from the rescue teams led to the successful evacuation of all passengers, ensuring their safety.

Efforts are currently ongoing to ascertain if there are any additional individuals trapped in the aftermath of the avalanche. Earlier in the week, the Bandipora-Gurez road in Jammu and Kashmir was blocked due to multiple snow avalanches. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has commenced an extensive clearance operation in the snow avalanche-hit area.
