Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday recommended a CBI probe into the death of Dhanbad Additional Sessions Judge Uttam Anand in the alleged hit-and-run incident.
Soren made this recommendation a day after meeting Anand’s family. Also on Friday, the Supreme Court, taking suo motu cognizance of Anand’s death on July 28, said the “horrific incident” had “major implications”, and that the court would address larger questions of security for judges across the country.
A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justice Surya Kant directed the Jharkhand Chief Secretary and the DGP to jointly submit a report in a week’s time on the status of investigation into the incident.
On Saturday, the CM Secretariat said in a press release: “The CM has ordered the CBI to probe the death of Judge Uttam Anand. The CM had met the relatives of Judge Anand and assured that justice would be done.
Soren also took to Twitter to announce his decision to recommend a CBI probe into the incident.

The Jharkhand government had set up a special investigation team to probe the incident after the police launched a murder probe and arrested two men in an autorickshaw who went off the road to beat up the judge who ran in the morning. .
