Encounter continues in Anantnag for two days, the Army's Para Commando Rashtriya Rifles and the special squad of Jammu and Kashmir Police are slowly moving forward with caution and tightening the cordon. The help of Heron drone and sniffer dog has also been taken in the operation. Meanwhile, another army personnel was injured during the encounter on Thursday.
Srinagar: Encounter between terrorists and security forces continues in the dense forests of Kokernag in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Two more soldiers were injured in this encounter which is underway in dense forest on Thursday. Late Tuesday night, the army and police conducted a joint search operation to search for the terrorists. This fierce encounter started in the early hours of Wednesday. A colonel, a major and the DSP of Jammu and Kashmir were martyred in Anantnag on Wednesday. At the same time, the army had killed 2 terrorists.
General-Officer-Commanding (GOC) of Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai and GOC of Victor Force, Major General Balbir Singh are closely monitoring the operation. He said that terrorists will not be spared.
This anti-terror operation is being carried out by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police. In this operation, new generation weapons and technologies are being used to control the terrorists. Heron drones capable of attacking are also being used in this operation which has been going on for more than 40 hours.
On the night of 12-13 September, the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police started a joint search operation. Officials said that a search operation has been conducted in Garol village area of Anantnag in search of two to three terrorists. During the search operation, the forces came to know that the terrorists were hiding in the higher reaches of the village in the dense forest area.
Colonel Manpreet Singh led the search operation. Major Ashish Dhonchak, commander of Kokernag Company of 19 RR, was with him. They moved forward through forests and rough areas.
Yesterday in afternoon, the hiding terrorists opened heavy fire on them. The squad conducting the search operation retaliated but in the fierce firing, Colonel Singh, Major Dhonchak and DSP Humayun Bhat were shot and later died of their injuries. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the martyrs in Srinagar today. The bodies of all the martyrs will be taken to their ancestral homes by special aircraft.
