J&K government prohibit sale, use of firecrackers within 5 km radius of International border

Srinagar: In a bid to keep security aspects in the border belt, Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday (November 3) issued an order tonight to prohibit on the sale and use of firecrackers within 5 km radius of International border, officials said. This move of ban on the sale and use of firecrackers near the Line of Control (LoC) comes in response to recent incidents of cross-border firing in the Jammu sector.

According to an official order from the Jammu administration, the ban will be effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. The administration has taken this step after the Senior Superintendent of Police reported that the wedding season is going on and people often resort to bursting firecrackers during wedding ceremonies, which are sometimes mistaken for cross-border firing.

While speaking with media an official said that the use of firecrackers in border areas has led to panic among security personnel and nearby villagers, who mistakenly interpret the noise as a sign of cross-border aggression. To address this issue, Section 144 has been invoked, and strict action will be taken against if anyone is found violating the order.

As Diwali is approaching and wedding season is underway, the administration has taken this dynamic step to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of border villages. Recent incidents of cross-border shelling by Pakistan Rangers in Arnia and Bishnah sectors of Jammu highlight the need for preventive measures to reduce any unnecessary panic or confusion.

A civil official told sources that the ban on firecrackers aims to maintain peace and security in the border regions and protect both the security forces and local residents during this sensitive time.

He said the administration will closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety of the affected areas.
