J&K: Man arrested for posing as fake CBI officer and defrauding lakhs of rupees in Baramulla

The police have apprehend a man, identified as Javeed Ahmed Rather, in the Kunzer town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla for impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer and confiscated household items and fake ID cards from his possession and have discovered various counterfeit documents.

Srinagar: The police have apprehend a man in the Kunzer town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla for impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer and confiscated household items and fake ID cards from his possession and have discovered various counterfeit documents.

The accused, identified as Javeed Ahmed Rather, was arrested after Kunzer police station received a complaint about the fraud. The case came into limelight after a written complaint was filed with Police Station Kunzer by Farooq Ahmad Wani of Wassun Bangil. In the complaint, Wani detailed a series of events involving a group of individuals, including Javeed Ahmed Rather, Anjuman Afreen, Aaqib Ahmad Wani, and Rafeeq Ahmad Wani.

According to one of the complainant, Javeed Ahmed Rather showcases himself as a CBI officer to him, producing a counterfeit CBI identification card. He falsely assured Wani that he could secure a spot for Wani’s child at the National Defence Academy (NDA). As the situation unfolded, the accused individuals allegedly resorted to theft and decamp with various household items, including a geyser, bedsheet, inverter, CCTV camera, LCD, and other valuables from Wani’s residence.

Wani, complainant, was allegedly defrauded of a sum amounting to about Rs 40 lakh, the spokesman said, adding the stolen household items were recovered from the arrested accused’s house. A case has been registered at Kunzer police station and further investigation is on, police said.

As a result, a case has been registered at Police Station Kunzer, and an detailed probe is on. Law enforcement promptly apprehended the individual who had posed as a CBI officer and recovered forged documents, including the purported CBI card, as well as some of the stolen household items from the suspect’s residence.

Community members are urged not to fall prey to such fraudulent persons and share any information with the police immediately. The consistent actions taken against anti-social elements reflect the commitment of the police to act firmly against such harmful individuals.
