John and Emraan’s ‘Mumbai Saga’ gets all praise by fans, critics alike

Mumbai: John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi’s gangster drama ‘Mumbai Saga’ saw its theatrical released today, on March 19. Helmed by Sanjay Gupta, the movie is set in 80s and 90s, and is being loved by cinema goers and critics alike for amped-up dialogues and action sequences.

Based on an underworld don, ‘Mumbai Saga’ was moved to High Court by Gangster DK Rao, alias Ravi Bohra, and the family members of don Amar Naik and his brother Ashwin Naik for a stay on the release of the film. However, the Bombay High Court on its Thursday, hearing refused a stay on the release of the movie.

Calling ‘Mumbai Saga’ a powerful punch, one Twitter user wrote, “MOVIE REVIEW- Movie can be remembered for its Power packed punch and dialogue, #JohnAbraham excel in is his dialogue delivery , #EmraanHashmi is prefect choice for the role. @TheJohnAbraham @emraanhashmi. Must experience this movie in theatre (sic).”

Another user wrote, “#MumbaiSaga #MumbaiSagaReview : It’s Mind Blowing…Fantastic.. The Fight Battles Between @TheJohnAbraham and @emraanhashmi is Superp…. Outstanding @_SanjayGupta (sic).”

Calling it to be a perfect action film to start 2021, one Twitter user wrote, “Perfect Action Movie to kickstart 2021. #JohnAbraham #EmraanHashmi nailed it and dialogues made it top notch entertainer. Superhit Blockbuster. Enjoy in the Cinemas. Worth to single penny (sic).”

Meanwhile, all in praise another tweet read, “The First Mass Movie Is On Theater Now. Mass Dialogues Punchlines Are bomb. FACE OFF between Amartya And Inspector Is Small Time Period But Conversations is lit. Attitude Of Amartya Rao Is Insane (sic).”

The mass entertainer also got approval from trade analyst Taran Adarsh who gave it a 3 and half rating. He wrote, “Action-packed entertainer with powerful dialogue… #JohnAbraham terrific, #EmraanHashmi impactful, #MaheshManjrekar, #AmolGupte superb… First hour razor-sharp, second half good… Mass entertainer! #MumbaiSagaReview (sic).”

However, it seems like the movie couldn’t please everyone as it also got some negative reviews. One Twitter user wrote, “#MumbaiSagaReview: #MumbaiSaga is a Disaster Saga. Sanjay Gupta’s B Grade Execution with C Grade Vision is faded long ago even in regional industries. John v Emraan Face Off is Watchable. Back to back pandemic strokes of Movies after #Roohi for Cinema Lovers. Crap! (sic).”

While another one wrote, “@_SanjayGupta definitely not that great like #Shootout at Wadala or Lokhandwala. Too many stars in one movie #MumbaiSaga #MumbaiSagaReview and with limited scope. Till interval it was like any #Kollywood movie lets see now after @emraanhashmi entry how things change (sic).”


‘Mumbai Saga’, which is based on 80s and 90s Mumbai’s underworld, shows John Abraham in the role of a gangster while Emraan plays a cop. The film also stars big names like Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Babbar and Gulshan Grover, among others.

The movie was initially scheduled to release on June 19 last year, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic the film’s release got delayed.
