Jyotirlinga Dispute: Assam claims on Bhimashankar, politics heats up in Maharashtra after advertisement

The Assam government has issued an advertisement on Tuesday claiming the country’s sixth Jyotirling named Bhimashankar to be in Assam. Taking a strong objection to this, the Maharashtra Congress has accused the BJP government of Assam of blowing up the Jyotirlinga, which has been the center of Hindu faith for centuries.

Congress leader Sachin Sawant said chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should immediately clarify its stance over the Assam government ad. Sawant has said that till now other state governments of BJP were stealing the investors of Maharashtra, now efforts are being made to take away the religious center. On the other hand, Madhukar Shastri Gawande, the chief priest of Bhimashankar Devasthan, said that no one should believe what the Assam government say

There are many Jyotirlingas (emergence of Lord Shiva) in the country. Out of them, 12 are the most famous. Dakini’s Bhimshankar is indeed the 6th Jyotirlinga but it is in Maharashtra. Other jyotirlingas of Maharashtra are Tryambakeshwara, Parali Vajinath, Grishneswar and Aundh Nagnath.

The advertisement in question also has a map to guide the devotees to the Bhimshankar Jyotirlinga in Pamohi, Guwahati, as claimed in the advertisement.

Sule quoted Brihad Ratnakar Stotra

Opposition parties in Maharashtra have questioned the claim of the Assam government’s advertisement. NCP leader Supriya Sule tweeted, ‘Has the BJP, after snatching the industries and businesses of Maharashtra, now decided to snatch the cultural and spiritual treasures. Pune is known for this Jyotirlinga, where devotees come from far and wide. The sixth Jyotirlinga at Pamohi near Guwahati is being promoted in the BJP-ruled state. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should pay immediate attention to preserve our spiritual heritage.
