Kanpur: 3 Workers die after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a ‘pollution’ tank

Three workers who came to clean the pollution tank at a tannery in Kanpur on Thursday afternoon fell unconscious after being hit by poisonous gas. The people present hurriedly rushed everyone to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. where all three died.

UP/Kanpur: Three laborers who came to clean the pollution tank at a tannery in Kanpur on Thursday afternoon fell unconscious after being hit by poisonous gas. The people present hurriedly rushed everyone to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. where all three died during treatment. However, the workers were not wearing any protective gear required to do such work.

According to the local police, three workers had come down to clean the safety tank of the tannery late on Thursday night. During this, all three came in the grip of poisonous gas. At the same time, the youth who came from Tannery fled leaving the dead bodies in Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. The family members of the deceased have been shaken by the news of the accident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ravindra Kumar said the deceased had been identified as Sukhbir Singh (35), Sonu Balmiki (28) and Satyam Yadav (26).

They were cleaning the tank when they inhaled the poisonous gas and fell unconscious. The tannery staff rushed them to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital where doctors declared them dead, he added.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem and their family members informed, the police said.

The families of the workers have demanded an FIR and an immediate arrest of the persons responsible for the incident alleging negligence on part of the tannery owner.

Local police said that they are investigating the matter and an FIR would be lodged on the complaint of the family members.
