Karnataka: Banjara community stages massive protest outside BS Yediyurappa’s house over SC reservation

Shivamogga: Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa’s house at Shikaripur in Shivamogga has been attacked. Members of the Banjara community protesting against the issue related to reservation have pelted stones at his house. Police lathicharged to disperse the protesters. The Banjara community has been demanding internal reservation in the Scheduled Tribe community. The dates for the assembly elections 2023 in Karnataka have not even been announced and the political tussle has started.

The Banjara community has lodged an objection regarding the internal reservation given to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe community. On Friday, the BJP government of Karnataka had announced internal reservation for SC/ST community. Accordingly, the 17 percent reservation given to the Scheduled Caste community was distributed internally. Under this decision, it was decided to give 6 percent to SC Left, 5.5 percent to SC Right, 4.5 percent to Touchables and 1 percent to others.

This decision of the state government was taken on the basis of the recommendation of the Sadashiv Commission, the heads of the Banjara community say that the recommendation of the Sadashiv Commission will harm their community and the recommendation that the state government has sent to the Center to implement this decision Must be withdrawn immediately.
