Karnataka BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa was arrested on Monday in a bribery case involving his son. , Lokayukta has arrested the BJP MLA. Virupakshappa was arrested near Kyathasandra toll plaza in Tumakuru. Recently, the Karnataka High Court had canceled his bail plea in the corruption case. During the hearing in the High Court, the counsel for the Lokayukta raised strong objections to the bail application.
What is the whole matter?
The anti-corruption branch of the Lokayukta had arrested the MLA’s son Prashant Madal a few days ago while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh. Prashant Mandal was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta officials while accepting bribe from his office. The corruption wing had recovered Rs 1.7 crore from the BJP MLA’s office and around Rs six crore from his house. Lokayukta had received a complaint of demanding bribe.
The party has been elected MLA for two consecutive terms
Madal Virupakshappa is the MLA from Channagiri constituency of Davanagere district for two consecutive terms. He had disclosed assets worth Rs 5.73 crore in his affidavit in the 2018 assembly elections. In the 2013 elections, he had declared assets worth Rs 1.79 crore.
Assembly elections to be held this year
Assembly elections are to be held in Karnataka this year. In such a situation, the action of Lokayukta has become a matter of discussion. This action against the BJP MLA’s son has also become an election issue. Both the Congress and AAP parties are attacking the BJP regarding this.
