Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident, a second year B.Sc student jumped off the college building due to fear of the ongoing examinations at Manipal University, tragically losing his life. The video of a student jumping from a six-storey building has gone viral on social media. A case has been registered at Manipal police station in Udupi district.

The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Satyam Suman. He was a native of Bihar. The incident took place on Saturday and the incident came to light lately. The incident, which has gripped public attention, has raised pressing questions about personal safety and student welfare within university premises.

On Saturday, when the exams were underway at Manipal University in Udupi district, Satyam went on to the sixth floor of the building at around noon. He went to the edge of the building and waited for some time. After some of the students saw him, they tried to pacify him to get down. Even when students were trying to convince him, Satyam jumped off the building.

He was swiftly rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His parents were abroad at the time of the incident and returned on Monday. After post-mortem examination, Satyam’s body was handed over to his family.

Satyam was studying at Manipal College of Health Professions. He was studying in the second year of the three-year course.

Some of the students in the opposite building recorded the incident on their mobile phones and the video of Satyam jumping off the building went viral on social media.

The Manipal Police have registered a case and have launched an investigation. The police are questioning the students and the college authorities regarding the incident.

The incident has since garnered widespread attention. It has sparked a broader conversation about the safety and welfare of students, particularly those living in university accommodations. It underscores the urgent need for effective security measures and protocols dedicated to student safety.
