A case has been filed against Karnataka Congress MLA SR Srinivas following allegations of assault on a contractor, identified as Ravikumar, during a protest outside the Public Works Department (PWD) office in Gubbi. The incident reportedly occurred amidst a demonstration against the cancellation of a tender, which left the contractor hospitalised.
Ravikumar, the contractor, lodged a complaint alleging that MLA SR Srinivas, accompanied by around 10 supporters, physically attacked and verbally abused him during the protest outside the PWD office in Tumakuru’s Gubbi. The complaint outlined the assault, stating that Ravikumar was kicked and subjected to verbal abuse by the MLA and his associates.
The FIR, registered on Saturday, lists multiple charges against the Gubbi Congress MLA, including Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 504 (provocation to breach peace), Section 149 (unlawful assembly), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping). These serious charges highlight the gravity of the alleged assault.
According to the complaint, the assault took place as Ravikumar was protesting the illegal cancellation of his tender. The FIR accuses MLA SR Srinivas and his supporters of attacking the contractor, resulting in his hospitalisation for a day.
After being discharged from the hospital, Ravikumar wasted no time in filing a police complaint, prompting the registration of the FIR against the MLA.
As legal proceedings unfold, authorities are investigating the matter to ascertain the events leading up to the assault.
