In a Bizarre incident, Doctors at Karnataka hospital said they have extracted 187 coins stuck inside the stomach of a 58-year-old man. The person had complained of abdominal pain and vomiting on Saturday.
Bagalkot/Karnataka: A strange case has come to light from Bagalkot city of Karnataka. Here 187 coins have been removed from a patient’s body after two hours of surgery. Even the doctors were surprised by this incident. The man has been identified as Dyamappa Harijan. Patient had a complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain, after which he was admitted to Shree Kumareshwar Hospital and Research Center in Bagalkot.
1.5 kg coins extracted from stomach
Doctors treating say that the patient is suffering from schizophrenia mental illness and he swallowed coins weighing 1.5 kg within two to three months. The relatives brought him to the hospital due to stomach pain. Doctors performed a successful operation through endoscopy and removed 56 coins of Rs 5, Rs 2 cake 51 and Rs 1 cake 80 coins from his stomach.
Doctors have pinned a psychiatric disorder as the reason behind the man’s unusual behaviour.
“He was suffering from a psychiatric disorder & had been swallowing coins for the last 2-3 months. He came to the hospital complaining of vomiting and abdominal discomfort,” said Dr Kalaburgi, one of the doctors who performed the surgery.
Patient’s condition is stable now
The doctors told that there is no danger to the patient now, the coins had gone into the stomach instead of the intestines. The doctors removed the coins by performing a surgery called gastrotomy. The patient’s stomach was very distended and many coins were stuck in different parts of the stomach. The coins were removed after two hours of surgery.
