Karnataka: Ex-Chief Secretary and retired IAS officer B K Bhattacharya, 83, passes away

Born on December 5, 1940, Mr. Bhattacharya served as Chief Secretary till December 30, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Teresa Bhattacharya, who also served as Chief Secretary, and two sons who are currently living in the United States.

Bengaluru: In yet another unfortunate incident, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of B.K. Bhattacharya, IAS (R), former Chief Secretary of Karnataka, on the night of November 17, 2023.

Mr Bhattacharya, 83, was admitted to Manipal Hospital yesterday morning after suffering from breathing problems and unfortunately he died due to his illness in the evening. IAS Officers Association shared this news with fellow officers.

Born on December 5, 1940, Mr. Bhattacharya served as Chief Secretary till December 30, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Teresa Bhattacharya, who also served as Chief Secretary, and two sons who are currently living in the United States.

The members of the IAS Officers’ Association have expressed deep grief over the death of Bhattacharya.

Siddaramaiah condoled Bhattacharya’s death on a social media platform X, “I am saddened to learn that Shri B K Bhattacharya a very senior retired IAS officer passed away yesterday night. When I was the Finance Minister during 1994-1999, he served with me as the Finance Secretary.”
