A 45-year-old saint of Sri Kanchugal Bandemath died in a room of the Math in Ramanagara district of Karnataka. On Monday, the body of Sant Basavalinga Swami was found hanging in his room. At present, the police have registered a case and started investigation. During this, a suicide note was also recovered from his room.
Ramanagara (Karnataka): The body of another Lingayat saint has been found in Karnataka. Basavalinga Swamy, a Lingayat saint from Sri Kanchugal Bandemath in Ramanagara, Karnataka, was found dead at his ashram on Monday. Kudur police gave this information. The police is investigating this incident as a case of suicide and has registered a case of unnatural death.
According to the police, the body of 45-year-old Basavalinga Swamiji was found hanging from the noose in the Math. Police has sent the body for post-mortem. In fact, when 44-year-old Basavalinga Swamy, the head priest of Kanchugal Bandemath, did not open the door of his room and did not pick up the phone calls of the devotees, the devotees broke the door of his room on Monday morning.
After this, seeing the view inside the room, there was an outcry among the devotees. Inside, the dead body of the saint was hanging from the noose. A two-page suicide note written by Swamy was also found in the room. Ramesh L, a teacher of a school run by the Math, gave this information to the police. The note purportedly states that the head priest of the monastery was being harassed by some people with defamation threats.
Bandemath has been in existence for more than 400 years and Basavalinga Swamy was the priest of the Math for the last 25 years. The Ramnagar police have started an investigation into the death of the sadhu after a case of unnatural death was registered. Last month, Basavasiddalinga Swamiji, a priest of Sri Guru Madiwaleshwar Math, was found dead in Neginahla village of Bailahongala taluk of Belagavi district.
