The Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy has taken significant steps to enhance the state's curriculum by creating five specialized committees tasked with revising textbooks for the upcoming academic year, 2023-24. The focus of these revisions primarily centers on the Kannada language and social science subjects.
Karnataka: In preparation for the academic year 2023-24, the Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy has taken significant steps by forming five committees dedicated to the revision of state curriculum textbooks. These committees have been tasked with reviewing Kannada language textbooks, including the first, second, and third languages, as well as social science textbooks, aligning with the National Curriculum Framework-2005 guidelines.
Dr. Manjunath G Hegde, a retired principal from Kumta in Uttara Kannada district, has been appointed as the chief convenor to lead this initiative.
Committee for Kannada First Language Textbooks (Class 1-10): This committee, comprised of 10 members and headed by Dr. Anjanappa from Tirthahalli in Shivamogga, is responsible for the review and revision of Kannada first-language textbooks from class one to 10.
Committee for Kannada Second Language Textbooks (Class 1-10): Dr. H S Satyanarayan will chair this committee, which consists of 10 members. Their focus will be on reviewing Kannada second-language textbooks from class one to 10.
Committee for Kannada Third Language Textbooks (Class 9-10): Dr. Manjanna leads this committee of four members, dedicated to the revision of Kannada third-language textbooks for class nine and 10.
Committee for Social Science Textbooks (Class 6-7): A seven-member committee under the leadership of Dr. Kiran M has been assigned the task of revising social science textbooks for class six and seven.
Committee for Social Science Textbooks (Class 8-10): Dr. Ashwathanarayana heads the fifth committee, which consists of members responsible for revising social science textbooks for class eight, nine, and 10.
These committees, with their specific areas of focus, aim to ensure that the state curriculum textbooks are updated and aligned with the educational standards outlined in the National Curriculum Framework-2005, ultimately enhancing the quality of education in Karnataka.
