KCR’s Daughter K Kavitha arrested by probe agency ED after raids at her residence in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: On Friday, The Enforcement Directorate has been arrested BRS leader K Kavitha and will bring her to Delhi for questioning in a money laundering case. Earlier today, the ED raided the premises of BRS leader K Kavitha, BRS MLC and daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, in Hyderabad.

The ED move comes after former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kavitha failed to appear on at least two summons issued by the investigating agency. Kavita was also questioned by the ED in a money laundering case related to the Delhi Excise Policy irregularities case.

The 45-year-old BRS leader did not attend the Enforcement Directorate’s session on January 16 for further questioning in the case, citing a Supreme Court judgment which had said that the investigating agency was authorized to summon Kavita in this particular case.

BRS Working President KT Rama Rao and former Minister Harish Rao and large number party workers gathered at the residence of K Kavitha and indulged in slogan shouting. However, according to Enforcement Directorate sources, the BRS leader had secured temporary relief from the apex court last year, but it is no longer in force.

Earlier, Kavita was questioned thrice last year in connection with the case, and the investigating agency had also recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). BRS leader and former Telangana minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy claimed that Kavitha was arrested and being taken to Delhi on a flight at 8.45 pm. He alleged that the move was “pre-planned” and said they would protest against it.

The BRS MLC has consistently claimed his innocence and counterclaimed that the BJP-led central government is ‘misusing’ federal agencies to gain ‘indirect’ access to Telangana. The ED had claimed K Kavitha was linked to a “South Group” lobby of liquor traders who were trying to play a larger role under the now scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.
