Pathanamthitta: A bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu fell into a gorge in Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday (March 28). At least 62 people were injured in this. Some of the injured are in critical condition. Police said the accident occurred when the bus carrying devotees was returning from the Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala.

The bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu met with an accident around 1.30 pm. During this, while passing through Elavankal near Nilakkal, the bus fell off the road into a ditch. According to the information received from the police, there were at least 64 people including nine children in it. The pilgrims are from Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu.
Police said 62 of them were injured, some seriously. The injured were admitted to several hospitals in Pathanamthitta and Erumeli. A police official said that the seriously injured would be shifted to better facilities.
Last year, a bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims met with an accident in Bheepathanamthitta. This bus was carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh. This bus also overturned. This accident took place on Saturday, November 19, 2022, near Laha in Pathanamthitta district. At least 43 people were injured in this.
