Kerala becomes first and only state in the country to have its own internet; 20 lakh families will get free Wi-Fi

New Delhi: Internet has reached almost every corner of the country. Meanwhile, Kerala has become the first state in the country to have its own internet service. Kerala Fiber Optic Network Limited has got the Internet Service Provider license from the Department of Telecommunications. Kerala Chief Minister P Vijayan himself gave this information by tweeting. According to the news agency, Kerala Fiber Optic Network Limited is the government’s ambitious IT infrastructure project to ensure that everyone in the state has access to the Internet. The Chief Minister said that after getting the license, work can be started under the project to reduce the digital divide in the society. Vijayan said on Twitter that Kerala has become the only state in the country to have its own internet service.

Internet connection was declared a fundamental right

Taking to Twitter, kerala CM P Vijayan wrote, Kerala has become the only state in the country with its internet service. Kerala Fiber Optic Network Limited has got ISP license from @DoT_India. Now our prestigious #KFON project can start its operations to make internet a basic right.

Free internet to BPL families and 30,000 government offices

KFON scheme is envisaged to provide free internet to BPL families and 30,000 government offices. The previous Left government had declared internet connection as a fundamental right in 2019 and launched the Rs 1,548 crore KFON project.
