New Delhi: On Monday, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids at several locations across Kerala linked to former members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) organization in connection with dubious hawala transactions. Former PFI members were promoting radical activities across the country through foreign funding.
The raids which started on Monday morning are continuing in Ernakulam, Wayanad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. As of now, the ED has not officially announced on the matter. According to information, the agency has initiated a PMLA investigation based on the NIA case.
A team of ED officials along with armed guards started the raid at around 6 am. A search is also underway at the house of PFI state leader Latif Pokathilam at Chavakkad in Thrissur district. The NIA also raided his house. According to media reports, Latif has fled to Saudi Arabia.
Apart from Latif, the ED also raided the houses of Abdul Samad in Wayanad, Abdul Jamil in Malappuram and Nurul Amin. Crores of rupees were transferred from abroad to the bank accounts of PFI leaders to carry out terror plots.
On September 28, 2022, the central government banned PFIs and related organizations for five years for ‘unlawful activities’. Several PFI leaders were arrested following a nationwide operation called Operation Octopus.
