Officials said that the accident occurred when the school bus was returning after dropping the students. State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also expressed grief over the deaths in this incident.
Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another tragic incident, a school bus and an auto-rickshaw in Kasaragod, Kerala collided with each other. Five people, including four woman died in the accident. Officials said that the accident occurred when the school bus was returning after dropping the students. Four people died on the spot, however, driver succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, police said.
According to officials, the accident took place around 5:30 pm at Pallathadka near Badiyadka in Kasaragod, when the bus was returning after dropping off school children and therefore no kids were in it. The school bus and auto – which were badly damaged – were seized by the police. At the same time, the CMO said in a statement that State Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also expressed grief over the deaths in this incident.
An officer of the Badiyadka police station, within whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, said that as per preliminary investigation the bus was speeding and coming from the wrong direction around a turn and that led to the accident.
According to officials, Bus driver is in police custody and an FIR will be lodged soon. Some local residents of the area told news media that despite calling an ambulance after the accident, the vehicle took time to reach the spot. He further added that accidents have happened in the area before, but not as tragic. He told that all four women were members of the same family.
